A Company Born out of Necessity

Heads 4 Dreads was officially launched in 2000 in Brooklyn New York as a headwear company that specializes in headwear for people with dreadlocks. The founder, Dasez Scott was Creative Director for the Kangol Brand. A light went on when he discovered that one of the biggest headwear companies in the world had only 3 hat’s that fit him in a collection of 70 styles. (He had Dreadlocks) “I wanted a baseball cap,” he said. “It’s that simple; purely selfish motivation. But, I figured if I was having this problem, others must be as well. Heads 4 Dreads, hats for dreadlocks. It was a catchy name that stuck. He made a small production of hats for fall 2000 and H4d was born. Scott said he did not like the knit hats that many people with dreadlocks wear. Instead, he tapped into his hip-hop (particularly B-Boy) roots and created a line of hats, stocking caps and accessories made of breathable, durable and of course, fashionable fabrics and coatings such as cotton and Gore-Tex. Embraced by the reggae artists, H4D was an instant success. Word quickly spread to the rest of the musical community that the H4D brand made quality products. Many artists would call to ask for products to tour with. H4D soon went global faster than a normal brand because of all the touring musicians. Since then the company has expanded to include, marketing, promotion and events, the company is now known as H4D Industries. The clothing remains a unique collection of sportswear inspired by the Rastafarian lifestyle. The brand is a modern approach to an established market. Our collection is designed to go everywhere reggae music goes. From the beach to the block party, H4D will bring the positive vibes and a culture consciousness whatever the scene.
